San Antonio, Texas, United States of America
Built in 1724 to serve as home for missionaries, The Alamo became famous for the Battle of the Alamo (1836) when Mexican troops killed most of the Texan troops defending the building. It made Texans mad enough to sign up and join the Texan army, which eventually helped end the revolution. It is close to the heart of many Texans as the site that inspired the fight for independence. It is where the American phrase, “Remember the Alamo!” originated. Admission is free. When you visit you can take a tour with a tour guide or take a self-guided audio tour. It is a very popular destination for families. After your tour, step outside for a stroll around the grounds before heading across the street to begin a walk down the famous Riverfront of San Antonio.
