Taipei, Taiwan
Not far from Taipei, The Orient is known as one of the best courses in Taiwan. The club is probably better known for its award winning and unique clubhouse than for its course layout. The entire complex has been dug into the land, with an underground parking basement and a second level at the same height as the back nine. The roof is grassed over, providing the area of the first tee.
The course is well covered with trees lining the fairways and few blind shots exist in the layout. Greens are heavily contoured and fast, particularly in summer conditions. Most of the greens are smaller than normal, so most players may find chipping becoming a greater part of their game id approach shots do not find their target. The course is well bunkered, but generally it will only be poor shots that find the sand traps. The 17th is a tricky hole with water lining the right side of the fairway and a small reverse Redan green funneling approach shots back to the fringe of the fairway. A lie on the top side of the green will leave an uncomfortable fast putt back to the pin and can easily find the bunker if struck too firmly.
