Loch Ness, United Kingdom
There are some places you go as a tourist where you do not want to experience anything kitsch or have any experience that is totally fantasy driven. However, I can honestly say that, for me, Loch Ness is not one of those places. Yes, the Loch and surrounding area itself is beautiful and amazing, but the story of the Loch Ness Monster has captivated generations and so to not be willing to suspend disbelief and go along with the tales whilst there is to entirely miss the point. After all, it isn’t exactly ten miles from Heathrow, being located very near the top of Scotland. So, if you are going to make the trip, you’d might as well make the effort. We did everything from the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition to the cruises on the Loch itself, and we loved every single moment of it. My son’s favourite part was the cruise, whereas the adults in the group, aside from loving the overall mythical aura of the place in general, were impressed by the beauty of the view from Urquhart Castle on the shores of the Loch. Ironically the biggest laugh we got when leaving the car park for the castle was the painted signage on the roads, in English and two Asian languages, reminding tourists to stay on the left side of the road when exiting, as this place draws interest from all over the world. Do yourself a favour and indulge in one of the many gift shops on various shores of the lake, and engage one of the locals in conversation. You will not be sorry you did! Reviewer: Meg
