Valleyfair! is the largest theme park in the upper Midwest, located in Shakopee, Minnesota. Of its 50 plus rides and water attractions, eight are roller coasters. One of the most popular of these is simply called Wild Thing. Its maximum height of 63 metres (207 feet) was actually mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration, due to the proximity of Flying Cloud Airport. This is an ‘out and back’ type of roller coaster, which is a layout commonly used in wooden coasters. As the ride was such a big hit, it inspired the construction of similar roller coasters in other places.
Planet Snoopy is the name of the kids’ area at Valleyfair! The rides are all themed to Peanuts cartoons and, unlike many other kids’ rides, they are designed so that parents can actually ride them with their little ones. For example, on Woodstock’s Whirlybirds, the whole family can get an aerial view of Planet Snoopy from monorail cars designed to look like helicopters. Another example of the types of rides here is Snoopy’s Yacht Club, which is a boat ride.
