Brisbane Tramway Museum
A small museum that is open on Sundays where you can ride on the preserved Brisbane trams. 50 Tramway Street, Ferny Grove (07 3351 1776).


Harts Flying Fighter Museum
This museum houses a collection of restored fighter planes and is located 12km South of Brisbane city at the Archerfield Aerodrome. Wirraway Avenue, Archerfield (07 3272 9484).


MacArthur Museum
Brisbane at War and the story of General MacArthur who ran the US war in the Pacific during World War 2 from Brisbane with the original office occupied by General Douglas MacArthur. Level 8, MacArthur Chambers, 201 Edward Street, Brisbane.


Maritime Museum
The Queensland Maritime Museum is at the southern end of the South Bank. Exhibits include a pearling lugger, a World War II frigate HMAS Diamantina and a tiny ocean-going yacht. Bulwer Island Light, Cape Don light and the lightship Carpentaria are part of an exhibition on navigational safety. Sidon Street, South Brisbane (07 3844 5361).


Museum of Brisbane
It displays an historical account of Brisbane’s past, as well as having up to date information on the city. Ann Street.


Queensland Energy Museum
Queensland energy explained with exhibits showing the early history of electricity and gas in Queensland. Herston, Brisbane.


Queensland Performing Arts Museum
A back stage view of the theatre and it’s artists. South Brisbane, Brisbane.


Queensland Police Museum
Some of the worst crimes explained along with displays on police investigative techniques. Queensland Police Headquarters.


Queensland Military Memorial Museum
The history of Queenslander’s service in the Commonwealth Defence Force going back to the early 1800’s. Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.


Queensland Museum
The Queensland Museum is part of the Cultural Centre at South Bank. It has many exhibits including a display on Queensland’s endangered species of mammals. Included is the Science centre which has interactive and hands on displays to entertain all ages. Grey Street, South Brisbane (07 3840 7555).


Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium
The Planetarium is located on Mt Coot-tha in the Brisbane Botanical Gardens.


State Library of Queensland
Something for everyone with exhibitions, talks, tours and film screenings. Stanley Place, South Bank (07 3840 7666).


Telstra Museum
Automatic phone exchanges and working exhibits provide an insight into telecommunications. Clayfield, Brisbane.


Tony Gould Gallery
An exhibition of Brisbane’s theatrical history. South Bank, Brisbane.


Victoria Barracks Museum
A collection of weapons used between 1899 and 1972.


Workshops Rail Museum
Hands on exhibits, large steam locomotives at the birthplace of rail in Queensland. Multi-media makes the story of rail come to life. There are trains to climb aboard and the largest model railway of Queensland. Visit the heritage workshops to see steam trains fleet being restored. North Street, North Ipswich (07 3452 5100).
