The picture used for the label is H. C. Richter’s nineteenth-century illustration of the now extinct Tasmanian tiger.

The two hour Brewery Tour covers the brewery and runs several times a day. A shorter Heritage Tour lasts 60 minutes covers the area around the brewery, gardens and museum.

The Brewery tour has a number of safety requirements. Long pants are compulsory, skirts and short pants are not permitted. Jewellery must be removed and covered shoes worn.  A lot of climbing through the brewery is necessary.

Hops, the female flowers of the hop plant Humuluslupulusare used extensively in brewing for their antibacterial effect and to balancethe sweetness of the malt with bitterness. Cascade uses hops from Bushy Park in the Derwent Valley, a very beautiful place to visit. Hawthorn Lodge the original farmhouse for the hop estates built in 1869 and home of Robert Shoobridge now operates as a delightful guest house and tea rooms.
