Curitiba is the capital of Paraná, and is the largest city in the wealthy southern region of Brazil, and considered to be one of the best places in the country for quality of life.

The city is renowned worldwide – at least in urban planning terms – for its innovative public transit system, and its population is mostly descended from German, Ukrainian, Russian, Italian and Polish immigrants, which has given the place a diverse atmosphere in its architecture and cuisine, and there are plenty of good restaurants to choose from.

In the city centre there is a 300 year-old cidade velha (old city), which has been largely restored, and which hosts a huge arts and crafts fair every Sunday. Apart from this, there is plenty for the visitor to see, and the following list will give you an idea of the variety of tourist attractions on offer:
