Where to go

Norway Travel

Each one of us wants to go to fancied destinations like London and Paris but if you are traveling on a budget then these cities can prove to be very expensive. Start of with the less frequented destinations like the beaches in Sicily and the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland and then you can proceed towards Paris and the border regions of Belgium, Germany and Spain. It is important to note that countries like Poland and Czech Republic continues to be cheaper than many countries in Western Europe. One should avoid Norway, Switzerland and Denmark as the cost of living is very high in these countries and a carefully planned trip can go haywire here.

Flights to Europe

If you are traveling to Europe from US then the flight fare will hover between $400 to 1000 depending on the destination. Try to avoid the months of June to October as flight tickets are very expensive during this time. July to mid-September is high season in Europe; so travel in low season to save a lot of money and to have a more authentic experience of the local culture.

Where to Stay

Where to Stay

The European cities have plethora of no-frills hotels that offer double rooms at $100 to 180 per night. But if you are staying for more than 4 – 5 days at a place then consider renting an apartment as the cost will be around 45% less when compared to hotel stay. The hostels are also very popular as you get quality rooms at $75 per night (approx). Some of the hostels even offer free breakfast.

Renting a car is a very affordable way of getting around in Europe. When you rent a car you can stay at B&B options or at the vacation home rental in the countryside. The European cities are also connected by a number of bus companies which is a cheap way of getting around in the continent.

Where to eat

Plan your meals very carefully to reduce traveling expenses. Do not eat at overpriced restaurants or sandwich shops located near the tourist spots as the prices are always inflated. Buy food at the small grocery stores or take full advantage of the lunch specials which are generally meant for the locals. Avoid eating out as you will have to shell out unnecessary charges.

Explore the destination on a budget

Exploring a destination should not be limited to parks or museums which has high entrance fees. There are a number of museums which offers free entry on a particular day of a week or month. Visit the museums on that particular day and save yourself a lot of money. In some cases a combined or a multi-day ticket is available which covers some of the major sites and attractions in a city. You can buy this so that you do not have to pay individual admission charges. Pick up a free entertainment guide to find out about local cultural events and free activities.
