When the sun goes down, the nightlife is some of the best in Brazil, with bars, nightclubs and restaurants open every day in the week.

Where most Brazilian Carnivals take place before Easter, there is an off-season carnival in Fortaleza in July, called Fortal. It lasts four days and attracts around 1.5 million people who come to savour the nationally famous axé music bands. Besides this, Fortaleza stages music festivals such as Ceará Music, an annual event that pulls in local artists and international names for three days, and draws some twenty-five thousand people.
