Genocide Museum S21

Genocide Museum S21, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Perhaps the most sobering example of the atrocities that took place during corrupt leaderPol Pot’s time in power, the Genocide museum S21 is located in Cambodia’s capital city, Phnom Penh.  In 1975 the building that had previously been used as a school was transformed into a holding facility. We now know that thousands of innocent Cambodians were held, tortured and executed here.

When you visit S21 be sure to have tissues at the ready as you come face to face with the darkest time in Cambodian history. As you enter the facility you will be welcomed by a Genocide survivor offering a free tour of the prison. The bloodstained floors, torture rooms, rows of minute holding cells and hundreds of victim’s photographs leave little to the imagination and will stay with you long after you leave.
