Natal travel

Natal is the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, and is situated on Brazil’s Atlantic coast. It is mostly known for its beautiful beaches, which stretch for several kilometres, with warm seas, sandy dunes and year-round sun. There are plenty of seafood restaurants with outdoor seating stretching along them, and it is a popular tourist destination with Brazilians and foreigners alike.

The city was originally based around the Forte dos Reis Magos (Reis Magos Fort), which was built to defend against the French in the 16th century, and this fort is now one of the city’s main attractions. Natal has a solid tourist infrastructure, and on Via Costeira, which is an avenue that borders its beaches, there are plenty of resorts and hotels offering accommodation and leisure facilities. On the nearby Ponta Negra beach, the tourist is spoilt for choice with so many small and friendly eateries.

The nightlife is also focused around the Ponta Negra along Rua Dr. Manoel Arauju, which is locally known as Rua da Salsa. Official statistics reveal that Natal is the safest city among the Brazilian capitals, and this is because the authorities work hard to protect its tourist reputation with effective security measures.
