Skyline Gondola Queenstown

Skyline Gondola

If you do just one thing when you visit Queenstown then you really should take the time to take a trip up the Gondola to the Skyline Complex above. Easily accessible by foot from the town centre this is the best way to truly understand the entire wonder of the Southern Alps.

The top terminal is 790m high and the vertical rise is 450m. The total length of the gondola is 730m and it inclines at an angle of around 37 degrees. At capacity the gondola transports 1000 people up and down the slopes in an hour using 4 person cabins travelling at just 4m per second on average.

When you get to the top of the Skyline Complex you can walk around the numerous observation platforms that give you a 220 degree view across to the Remarkables and Coronet Peak; over the town of Queenstown itself and across the Lake Wakatipu and on to Cecil and Walter Peaks.

The gondola is open to the public every day from 9am although finishing times vary depending on what is going on at the Skyline Complex that evening. If you are worried about getting caught up there, just ask the operator what time they will be running their last cars up and down the mountain.

At the top of the gondola is the luge and fun to go down and designed for all levels.
