Sao Vicente

The partying on Sao Vicente is based around the town of Mindelo, which is also regarded as the cultural capital of the archipelago. It has a world-famous music scene which has nurtured many artists over the years, none more so than Cesaria Evora, the most famous Capeverdian musician.

Located in the Macronesian island archipelago, this beautiful country has become a favoured tourist haunt due to its semi-close connection to Madeira and its fabulous hospitality. The language spoken by the native Capeverdians is believed to be the oldest continuously spoken Creole in the world and it has a very distinct tone. Don’t worry though, English is slowly challenging Portuguese as the dominant language so you shouldn’t have too many problems.

The town of Mindelo is the most beautiful town in the archipelago as it has a wealth of crumbling colonial buildings and occupies a striking location, nestled in between mountains and the sea. The partying on this island is legendary, the bars and restaurants on the beachfront selling cheap grog and around every corner there is the sound of the local furnana (foot stomping) music being played from a house or café. Praca Nova is a good area to start the hunt for a party, or even to grab some of the famous Cape Verde dish catchupa. The location of the accommodation on the island is principally in the town centre and this is the best area to start of your holiday.

The island offers a wide variety of activities for the thrill seeker such as deep sea fishing, diving and walking amongst the remnants of the islands volcanic history. It is a very arid country so trying to spot the few trees and bushes is bit of an adventure.
