Birthplace of Rastafarianism, the sites and traditions of Ethiopia date much further back to thousands of years. This is the country where you can find medieval churches made out of solid rock in Lalibela, and thousand year old Christian ceremonies still being performed today. The highlands are covered with 17th century castles, ancient tombs and obelisks. Gonder is said to be the remains of Africa’s Camelot while the island monasteries on Lake Tana are still functional. Then there are the natural wonders – Abyssinian lions in Nechisar National Park, Africa’s last great wilderness in Lower Omo Valley and the dizzying Bale Mountains National Park to name just a few.
