Located in the glorious Ssese island archipelago, Bugala Island is a wonderful place to spend a week or two. The largest of the island range, Bugala is fairly well equipped for the incoming tourists, as there are a number of hotels and resorts located in and around the capital, Kalangala.
The two main tourist activities are diving or fishing, both of which can be arranged whilst on the island and are wonderful ways to spend your time here. The diving is of fantastic quality and is primarily located around the closer island keeping you away from the main fishing routes, although you will probably have to bring your own equipment. Fishing here is a fun experience and as long as you help out, you can go with the local fishermen on their boats and get to share in their way of life. It is possible to catch the gigantic Nile Perch here, a fisherman’s tale that no one can accuse you of lying about.
The island is also home to the Vervet Monkey, a cheeky little animal that can get very friendly indeed. Bugala Island is privately owned and you will be staying in accommodation provided by the island’s owners but all of it is reported to be of a high standard so you should be able to relax and enjoy yourself on this glorious island.
