Afghanistan

Travelling in Afghanistan may be a bit riskier than other countries, but the rewards are plenty. A country dominated by deserts and rugged mountains, Afghanistan offers many opportunities for exploration. Make Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, your base. The city itself is rich in history; it is over 3500 years old, has bustling bazaars and is a fascinating display of ethnic diversity. Afghanistan is also home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Minaret of Jam and the Buddha statue ruins at Bamiyan.  Before you leave, you’ll find solace in the amazing Hazrat Ali Mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif.

Afghanistan is the 41st largest country in the world and is bordered by 6 other countries. Kandahar was once the capitol here, but it was shifted to Kabul in the 1700s.

A little known fact about this country is the national sport is Buzkashi, which means Goat Grabbing, with the second favourite sport being kite flying. You would never be served a meal her that didn’t include Naan bread, and Opium is the largest and fastest growing crop in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is very mountainous with the highest ranges reaching to 18,000 feet, they are called Hindu Kush.
More than 99% of the population here are Muslims and the locals are called Afghans or Pashtuns. Unfortunately since the late 1970s Afghanistan has been in a continuous state of war.
