Part of the West Bali National Park, Menjangan Island is a remarkably well kept secret. Tiny and home to 16 Buddhist monks and a handful of deer, there really is nowhere to stay on this tropical gem. But making a day trip here is essential if you are in the region; reputed as the best beach in the Bali area this is one island adventure you won’t forget.
The waters surrounding are ideal for snorkelling due to the remarkable coral reef and occasional water filled caves that can be found around the island. Many people choose to dive here as well as there is only a slight current, the sight is generally with high-visibility and is suited to beginners and these tours can be arranged from Bali. The beaches which surround the island are glorious, with white sand and a wonderful climate and this area tends to get less rain than Bali, so is perfect for topping up your tan. There is a beautiful temple on the island called ‘Puri Gili Kencana’ which can be visited as part of a trek around the island and should only take an hour or so; it is visible as you approach the island by boat.
