Grand Hirafu is one of four resorts in Niseko, one of the top winter vacation destinations in Japan. It is in Hokkaido.
Grand Hirafu is great for boarders and skiers alike and the terrain suits all ability levels. There is a good ski school with professionals who give lessons (in English) across the range – beginners to experts. Fresh track powder lessons are available too.
The season is from late November to early May but the most snow is from February to March.
Ski-in, ski-out accommodation is available right at the bottom of the first quad chair lift so reaching the top of the runs is quick.
Family friendly Grand Hirafu has a snowpark area which is only for those who want to play in the snow. There is also a fantastic Kogen Polarcarrousel for some merry-go-round style fun in the snow.
For a special experience, visitors can put on some snowshoes, or short skis, and take a walking tour through quiet woods covered in pure white snow.
After a day swishing down the mountain, relax in an open-air hot spring bath with naturally occurring minerals that improve health.
Terrain: 30% beginner, 38% intermediate, 32% advanced. There are 30 trails. The longest run is 3.5 miles or 5.6 kilometers.
