Perhentian Kecil Island

One of the most popular backpacker islands in the region, Kecil “Small” Perhentian is a beautiful and rustic island paradise loved by many travellers to the region for its cheap and simple living. Located close to Thailand but part of Malaysia, the island is a favourite place for tourists to cross the border and although many plan on only stopping off for a night, they invariably stay longer as this is a sublimely beautiful island.

The accommodation is basic and nothing more than plain beach huts but there is a romantic element to living literally on the beach and it is one of the main reasons why Kecil is so popular; that and it has a bit of a summer party reputation. The scuba diving in the area is famous for being wonderful with ‘sugar wreck’ and ‘pinnacle’ being amongst the best and with numerous wrecks and sites located not far from the land, it is also possible to spot sharks here. If you are interested in diving or snorkelling there are many dive shops and companies located on the island, some with instructors speaking many languages so you should have no problems.
