Pulau Tiga

Pulau Tiga is famous for being home to the T.V. Series ‘Survivor’ and it was on this beautiful ‘deserted’ island that the contestants were left to fend for themselves. The reality, however, is a little different.

The island is home to a resort and a wildlife park which provides a great opportunity to see monitor lizards, monkeys and visit the mud baths for a therapeutic soak. As the largest of the three islands in the Pulau Tiga National Park, it is possible to arrange travel to the other islands in the range with ease, just ask in the resort for details. The other islands are Snake Island, named as it is the home to a breeding ground for a number of local species of snake, and Pulau Kalampunian Besar, which has eroded over the years and is essentially a sand bank.

Life on Pulau Tiga is rustic with basic accommodation and that is part of the reason that so many people come here; the beach is pretty without being beautiful and the waters are only fairly clear but you do get a real sense of a true ‘Robinson Crusoe’ experience. Just watch out for the monkeys stealing your belongings!
