When people think of Mongolia they think of Genghis Khan, and a short drive out of the city is the location for the Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue. This giant monument is 40 metres high and shows Genghis Khan riding a horse, and the area also has a restaurant, gift shop and other facilities for visitors. Some of the attractions to see in Ulan Bator are Sukhbaatar Square, Gandan Monastery, Choijin Lama Monastery, the Winter Palace of the Bogd Khan and the Opera House. To see some of the natural areas outside Ulan Bator, tourists go to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park for its river, hills, forests and unique geological formations.
