One of the most famous islands in Asia, Koh Samui is home to a hugely active tourist scene and really has something for everyone. The island is awash with beaches, each offering a different level of tourism and quietude but if you are interested in some serious partying then you should head to Chaweng, with its late night pubs and clubs. If you are after a romantic candlelit meal then you should head to Bophut beach, which is a little quieter and not as busy.
Although not as untouched as Koh Tao or Koh Phi Phi, Koh Samui still has plenty to offer as the beaches are spectacular, the weather is generally dryer than other parts of the country and the variety of accommodation suits every type of traveller. It is also a popular base for many scuba divers due to its locality to many great dive sites, however the waters immediately surrounding the island are generally too murky for any snorkelling or diving. It is easy to arrange trips from many points on the island although Bophut is perhaps the most sensible of you want to head to Koh Tao and its surrounds.
