Although you must travel through this country with a guide, it is well worth it to see the exotic sights of Turkmenistan. Golden statues, copious palaces, and monuments made of marble will sparkle in the sunlight as you stroll through the swanky cities. For less lavish and more natural, you can choose to camp in the painted desert of Yangykala Canyon. Hike over sandy dunes to see unique gas craters formed by mother Earth. Kugitang Nature Reserve bears mountains, caves, streams and canyons, so leave no stone unturned. You may even be able to catch a glimpse of the rare Markhor mountain goat.
