Cat Ba

Cat Ba is an island around Halong Bay. It’s one of the few islands in the area that is inhabited and the island and the town of Cat Ba is the getaway destination for the local Hanoi population so on the weekend it gets very busy – sometimes resembling a mini fairground. During the week it returns to a sleepy village.

There’s a huge national park to explore, the hospital caves where locals were treated during the war and the beaches. Cat Ba also has selection of really good restaurants where you can choose your own fish from tanks. Other cuisine is catered for as well and several restaurants and bars line the waterfront with pretty views over the bay and twinkling fishing boats bobbing in the water. Visit the pretty beaches named unimaginatively named Cat Co 1, 2 and 3. There’ll definitely be less people at Cat Co 3, and could well be the prettiest.
