British Indian Ocean Territory

Halfway between Madagascar and Indonesia, the British Indian Ocean Territory is a string of uninhabited Indian Ocean island archipelagos. The main island of Diego Garcia serves as a joint US-UK military base, which isn’t open to tourists.

The best way to visit the islands, which are spectacularly unspoilt, is to charter a yacht and sail there. The Chagos Archipelago is the most popular, with seven atolls, which altogether make up over 60 tropical islands.
