Uepi is a wonderful site for divers and those that love snorkelling due to the remarkable geography that surrounds the island. On the western side of the island is the Marovo Lagoon which is often regarded as the longest lagoon in the southern hemisphere. An incredible sight with crystal-clear waters filled with a remarkable variety of fauna and a great number of sharks, this makes for a jaw-dropping sight. The eastern side of the island falls into the ‘The Slot’, a 2km deep drop-off that is unlike anything else and if you have the inclination and nerve you will be stunned by its beauty.
Accommodation on the island is provided by the Uepi Island Resort and is in the form of simple huts but even if the lodgings aren’t spectacular, the scenery most certainly is. There are also a large number of jungle trails on and around the island where you can venture forth and encounter some of the indigenous cultures that exist in this stunning archipelago. It is possible to visit the other Solomon Islands either by boat or, if you are brave enough, sea kayak. The real beauty of Uepi and the surrounding islands is the serene peace of knowing that you are on one of the last pieces of land before the vast Pacific Ocean.
