If you’re looking to escape to an island hideaway, Anguilla may be just the place. This small Caribbean island has all the same stunning blue seas and blinding white beaches as the other popular islands in the region but the vibe is decidedly more relaxed and low key. On Anguilla you can still sample the delights of the local culture while enjoying the comforts of a private beach villa holiday. Spend your days soaking up the sun and sea on one of the beaches, make the boat trip out to the secluded isle of Prickly Pear, and after the sun has set, tuck into Anguilla’s famous BBQ ribs and live music scene.
If you enjoy lying on a beach soaking up the sun then Anguilla must be high on your list of places to visit as it has some of the most striking in the world, crystal clear waters and soft sands entice travellers the world over. It is also home to some fantastic food with BBQ tents near the beach and a wonderful rustic vibe for those that enjoy a bit of culture on their Caribbean dream islands. Although the island has become a haven for the super rich it is possible to experience it cheaply, with private beach villas and local restaurants offering considerably better value than the plush resort hotels that can be found here as well.
Most people that make it here head straight for The Valley, the largest settlement, but for those that make it further into the island to areas such as Island Harbour and Sandy Ground then many bargains can be found for both accommodation and dining. The nightlife is considerably more relaxed than on the neighbouring islands and many find this a welcome respite. The island is famed for its snorkelling, diving and golf and it is advised to do these at the natural pace of the island, which is perfectly Caribbean.
