A popular alternative to Montego Bay for its significantly more relaxed atmosphere and peaceful beauty, Negril is a striking and uniquely Jamaican island where drinking rum punch and Red Stripe are the order of the day. The island bills itself as family oriented but it is still possible, and actively encouraged, to imbibe yourself to your hearts content at the world famous Rick’s Bar where many a party animal has danced the night away. There are still plenty of things to do for those who are seeking a quieter holiday as the beaches are outstanding and the boat tours around the locale offer an outstanding opportunity to spot dolphins and enjoy some of the best sunsets in the Caribbean.
Negril has numerous places of interest inland as well, with stunning waterfalls and a central mountain which even houses a retreat for those who get bored of beaches and bars. The view from the mountain top is well worth the climb as you can see for many beautiful miles. Many people who come to the island stay in a luxurious resort as there are many spa treatments on offer and many have private beaches but perhaps the most interesting place to stay is Rock House where The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan have previously spent time.
