Home to many myths and legends, achingly beautiful and only 50 miles from Miami, Bimini is one place that you will never forget. Although technically split into two islands, Bimini is classified as one region with North Bimini being the home of the majority of the population and South Bimini being considerably quieter. Alice Town on North Bimini is where the majority of people will locate in order to see the rest of the sites on the islands as this is the central hub of tourism. From here it is easy to arrange accommodation and sightseeing. The Compleat Angler is a hotel and Ernest Hemingway shrine as the great man used to stay here on his frequent fishing trips.
One of the most interesting myths about Bimini is that it is home to both the ‘Fountain of Youth’ and the ‘road to Atlantis’. It is believed that the ancient stones sunken offshore (that can be visited on dive tours) are part of an ancient road that used to lead to the fabled city of Atlantis. The ‘Fountain of Youth’ is supposedly located on South Bimini for those in need of a little refresh.
