A private dream island in the Caribbean that is not for the super-rich, South Water Caye is a beautiful place to visit. For the same price as a mid-range hotel in most major cities you can live in paradise in your own cottage on the beach and fall asleep listening to the sea washing onto the shore. South Water Kaye is surrounded by a natural coral reef that is UNESCO protected for to its natural beauty and the abundance of sea life. It is a hugely popular diving and snorkelling region and both activities can be easily arranged through your resort.
The island is cheap due to the lack of amenities and the accommodations rustic nature. With no electricity in the rooms and rainwater used for the showers some people may be put off but you may also enjoy staying on a remarkably romantic deserted island with a no-frills approach. It is possible to rent kayaks to explore the surrounding waters and find good areas for snorkelling but if you are a bit of a landlubber then you may prefer to sample some inland trekking, which the island provides in abundance. There is also a science research centre located 14km away from the island which can provide a fascinating insight into the wildlife of the area.
