Dhekelia is a peninsula on the southwest coast of Cyprus. It remains, along with Akrotiri, under the full authority and jurisdiction of Britain. Although a British military base mainly populated by military personnel, there are some great ruins and sights to see. The best part about Dhekelia is the wild and open spaces uncluttered by the tourist developments taking over so much of Cyprus. You may need to check about entry onto a military base before trying to visit Dhekelia.
