Most people pass through Amiens on the way to Paris but it is worth stopping to see the cathedral. Reputed to have the oldest belfry in France it is in the medieval quarter and popular with visitors. Amiens has a good local food market and some excellent shopping areas. The canals are another feature and actually irrigate the local market gardens, and are great to walk along. The old Quartier St Leu has Flemish and other traditional buildings adding a real character to the place. Amiens is also close to Agincourt and is a good base to explore the local countryside.
