Bayonne

Bayonne is in the Basque Region and this influence is very clear in the town. The green and red painted houses are just one clue and the cuisine is typically Basque as well. This is a beautiful coastal city with its quays on the Nive and sixteenth century arcaded houses. The Basque Museum is very interesting and explains the history and culture of this region. Within driving distance the Atlantic coast with is beaches are an attraction in this area as are the distant mountains with lots of inviting walking and sporting activity.
