Besancon

Besancon is an ancient grey stoned town in Eastern France and the capital of Franche-Comte. It lies at the northern edge of the Jura Mountains and is enclosed in a loop of the Doubs River. The town has a number of interesting museums and shops to explore and is a great base for exploring the countryside in this beautiful area. There are many cycling and walking routes and in season skiing which makes it a good place to consider an activity based holiday. Neighbouring towns include Pontarlier and St Hippolyte which are delightful to explore.
