Cherbourg

Cherbourg, for many people is a port of arrival to France from England. It is the gateway to Normandy and is a traditional fishing town with a good Thursday market. Many people visit it for the hypermarkets on the outskirts of town, and there are also some great seafood restaurants. For others Cherbourg acts as a base to see more of Normandy and with small towns such as Barfleur and St Vaast La Hogue within a short drive there is plenty to see and do. Nearby there are some good beaches and bracing coastal walks which are a lovely way to experience the countryside.
