Dunkerque

France’s third largest port in northern France, Dunkerque, is famed for its fishing town, the arts museum and the evacuation of British troops during World War Two from the beaches. It is a port of arrival for many visitors to France and onwards to Belgium and has a number of shops and a market. The beaches are popular in summer all along the north coast of France. Dunkerque is a good base for exploring more of the area, particularly the magnificent Mont St Michel at St Malo just a few miles down the coast.
