Orleans

The northernmost city on the Loire Orleans is most famous for Joan of Arc and her deliverance of the city in 1429. Her presence is everywhere, with a statue in the Place du Martroi, and a commemoration in the Cathedrale Ste Croix. For some excellent art with paintings by many French artists the Musèe Beaux Arts is worth a visit. Orleans has a lovely town centre with many good restaurants on the Rue de Bourgogne. It is also a good town as a base for exploring more of this lovely area of France.
