Rouen, a town on the River Seine, has a lot of history. At the Place du Vieux Marche Joan of Arc was burnt to death and is commemorated in the nearby memorial church. The gothic cathedral still dominates the town centre and the Musèe des Beaux Arts has many old masters on display. There are many places relating to Joan of Arc in town which attract visitors here. Rouen has some lovely shops and a wealth of local restaurants and bars serving regional specialties. Nearby Monet’s garden at Giverny is one of the most popular attractions in the area.
