Duisburg

Just north of Dusseldorf, Duisburg is in the heart of the Ruhr industrial heartland but has a number of surprises. This is a major attraction for film fans with a number of cinemas and the Duisburg Film Festival is one of the most well known in Europe. Where the old blast furnaces once lit up the sky the Stadtwerke Summer Cinema attracts thousands of people each year. The brightly coloured fountains on Konigstrasse are a feature of this long shopping street and of the city which is full of interesting sculptures and art work. Duisburg is full of surprises and there is a real energy and vibrancy through this cultural German city.
