Essen

Essen is in the very heart of Germany’s Industrial region and the city manages to combine the steel making heritage with art and design remarkably well. Visitors can take a Cultural Trail around the city where blue stones mark sculptures, designs and other installations. With an Alvar Alto designed Opera House and a Poster Museum amongst many other interesting art buildings there is a lot to see in Essen. The older parts of the city around Burgplatz Square and the Cathedral are also a delight to see. With the city close to other interesting German towns this is a fascinating region to explore and see regeneration at its best.
