Kassel

Kassel is known for its modern buildings and for the famous Documenta Exhibition of contemporary art which occurs every 4-5 years. This is the city that decided not to restore old buildings after the Second World War and made a clean break with the past which is reflected in its skyline. Visitors come for the art and also the Grimm Brothers Museum which celebrates the fairy tales of the writers who spent thirty years of their lives in Kassel. Wilhelmshoe Palace is a major attraction in Kassel as is the Museum of Astronomy and Physics in a city that has a number of interesting places to see.
