Kiel

The capital of Schleswig –Holstein, Kiel is seen as the Gateway to the Baltic. Set on the Kiel Fjord this is a city that has grown around the shipbuilding and maritime history and has many beautifully preserved buildings from the nineteenth century especially on Danische Strasse. This is an area with several beaches within the city limits and some wonderful scenery including the Friedrichsort cliffs and the Kiel Canal. The Horn Bridge with its ingenious folding mechanism and the Holstenstrrasse are popular with visitors who also flock to Kiel for the many museums celebrating the city heritage and the summer Schleswig–Holstein Music Festival.
