Trier

Founded by the Romans, Trier is the oldest city in Germany. With over 2000 years of history this city on the Moselle is characterised by the Porta Nigra which is one of the best preserved city gates in the world. There are many Roman remains all over the city from bridges to streets and the medieval aspect is also an attraction with the beautiful Hauptmarket Square and other sights. With a vibrant night life and a good arts scene Trier is also at the very centre of the wine making industry in the region and the perfect place for a weekend break.
