Alonissos

If you are seeking an authentic Greek experience then you should visit Alonissos, a beautiful island in the Sporades chain where tourism has not yet got a firm grip and where the seafood is literally straight from the sea. Surprisingly cheap and stunningly beautiful, Alonissos is everything that you would hope for from a Greek isle and without the swathes of tourists, which really does help to experience a more authentic adventure.

Most visitors arrive in Patitiri by hydrofoil and then find accommodation in that area but if you don’t mind being a little further away from ocean then you should try and rent a villa in Chora, a beautiful hillside village with remarkable views. The atmosphere in the village is incredibly romantic with many souvlaki restaurants offering candlelit service and cosy tavernas providing wonderful views over the bay. Alonissos is also popular for diving and other watersports as this area of the Aegean has remarkably clear water and an abundance of marine life, with Mediterranean monk seals and fish in the Alonissos Marine Park. A place to savour and enjoy, Alonissos will not be forgotten in a long time.
