Amalfi is the largest town on the Sorrento Peninsula and a popular and picturesque resort. Once a maritime power until it was subdued in 1131 by the King of Naples it is now a fishing town and popular with sightseers. With charming houses and the Chiostro del Paradiso and Duomo there is a lot to see. This is a wonderful place to sit at a café and watch the locals and to try some of the regional specialties. Many people take a car on to the roads snaking round the cliffs for a spectacular view across the bay.
