Ancona

Ancona is the capital city of Le Marche and is a large port with ferries to and from Greece. It has some good beaches making it a place for holidays and also lots of interesting architecture around town. The Loggia dei Mercanti dating from the 15^th century is a monument to the time when this was a really prosperous medieval port. There are many museums here with Greek and Roman artefacts reflecting the heritage of being habited by Greeks from Siracusa. People pass through here on the way to another destination but it is worth stopping and exploring this interesting town.
