Located just two hours from Venice, the Cortina D Ampezzo Ski Area is extremely popular with Italians who go to enjoy the mountain air, fantastic scenery, excellent shopping and great skiing.
You know that when ski resorts have been chosen to hold prestigious events like the winter Olympic Games, the snow and terrain will be excellent and varied. With over one third of the terrain being beginner friendly, and nearly two thirds great for intermediates, there’s plenty of choice for the vacation skier. Experts might feel a little left out here.
This mountain area is huge, craggy and picturesque. The four ski areas are spread out but it is well serviced by efficiently run bus or the lifts. The season is from late November to mid April.
There are numerous excellent restaurants serving a variety of cuisine on the mountain and even more in the town. Italians like to socialise at Cortina D Ampezzo so there are loads of places to chill awhile. There are also some classy wine bars to tempt those who enjoy imbibing.
Terrain: 33% beginner, 62% intermediate, 5% advanced. The longest run is 6 miles or 9 kilometers.
