Frascati is located in the Alban Hills and its central piazza is actually a belvedere overlooked by the Villa Aldobrandini. This is a splendid 17th century building set in a beautiful park with sculptures, grottoes and fountains. This area is also famous for its white wine production which can be sampled in the local cafes and restaurants. Near Frascati there are some beautiful 10th century frescoes at the fortified Abbazia di san Nilo in Grotta Ferrata, and just 4km away at Lake Albano visitors will enjoy Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer palace.
