Palermo lies in a natural amphitheatre called the Conca D’Oro and is nestled between Monte Pellegrino and Monte Alfano. This beautiful and unique Sicilian town has many styles of architecture reflecting previous civilisations from Arab to Baroque and Norman to Art Nouveau. The Palazzo Reale is magnificent and a real focus of the city and the Gesu Church a wonderful example of Sicilian craftsmanship. There are many good cafes and restaurants to try local food and watch the locals and some interesting food markets and local shops dotted all over Palermo.
