Parma

One of the most affluent towns in Italy Parma is a byword for fine food. This is where parmesan cheese and Parma ham originated from techniques perfected over many years. There are many elegant shops and restaurants here in this gastronomic idyll. Each ham is branded with the old Duchy of Parma five pointed crown before being sent around the world. Parma also has a good selection of museums including those celebrating archaeology and the exquisite Baptistry with a Correggio fresco is magnificent. The Palazzo Pilotta was built for the Farnese family and is a prominent feature of Parma in the centre of town.
